Equinox

PACKING LIST

Daytime temperatures range from the mid 50s to the mid 60s Fahrenheit or 12-18 C. On the water, it can feel cooler than that. Southeast Alaska is a temperate rainforest, so consider materials/fabrics that will keep you dry and warm and are functional for chilling next to a bonfire or hiking in the woods.

What to bring:

The Bag: A collapsible duffle style bag is best. There is ample storage on the Equinox, but it is hard to stow large hard case suitcases. If the Equinox is only a short portion of a larger trip, we can arrange to stow any extra items shoreside for the duration of the cruise. Please let us know beforehand if you’ll need to stow extra gear shoreside.

Clothing:

  • Layerable clothing. A couple comfortable insulating mid layers and warm jacket.

  • Lightweight waterproof outer layer (jacket with hood and pants). We have foul weather gear for the boats, but it is heavy and bulky, not well-suited for walking around.

  • Warm hat or headband

  • Warm gloves

  • Plenty of warm socks

  • Waterproof boots. Tall, flat soled rubber boots work best for traction on deck and for getting to and from the beach. See an example here. Boots to not need to be Xtratufs! Any boots that are a minimum of 10” high will do. Avoid shorter boots if you are interested in beachcombing/beach bonfires - you’ll get wet feet getting in and out of the skiff!

  • Comfortable walking/hiking shoes (if part of your itinerary is to hike!)

  • Baseball cap or other brimmed hat

  • Sunglasses

  • Slippers

Gear:

  • Comfortable backpack for packing snacks/extra clothing on a hike or river fishing.

  • Sunscreen

  • Camera!

  • Water bottle

  • Wetsuit (if you plan to hop in the water for a snorkle)

Avoid:

  • High heels

  • Hair dryers, electric razors, curling irons, etc.
