Equinox

Skinny water, stout fish.

Boiled down to the essentials, that’s the appeal of steelhead fishing on the islands of Southeast Alaska. Watersheds are smaller than most mainland steelhead runs and the fish are more visible. Equinox, with Tongass on the Fly will take you to streams in the Tongass National Forest where you’ll have unsurpassed sight fishing opportunities for North America’s best freshwater gamefish.

Equinox strives to provide guests with a wilderness fishing experience. We cruise the outer coast and Inside passage in search of less accessible steelhead water with minimal fishing pressure.

You’ll wake up at the river, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and spend the day with your guides in a battle of wits with powerful steelhead fresh off the ocean. When you’ve had enough, we’ll return to the comfort of the yacht to recharge, tie a fly, perhaps enjoy a drink on the upper deck. Fresh seafood is in abundant supply for dinner, and if you crack a window as you fall asleep, you’ll hear the river flowing into the ocean, grouse hooting and otters or whales meandering through the anchorage.

We can accommodate up to 4 guests in 4 private staterooms on a 6 day/6 night steelhead focused expedition in May 2025.  Seats are limited so please contact asap if you’re ready to accept the challenge. We also have the option of salt water fishing, shrimping, crabbing, hiking and kayaking.

Kevin grew up in Colorado, but now calls Petersburg, Alaska home. After guiding in Bristol Bay he returned to Southeast, Alaska to chase steelhead and is deeply passionate about the sport.

Kevin is a licensed captain and CPR/First Aid certified.
